Those of us who wear medical bracelets seem to be on a quest to find the right one that’s not only comfortable; but, also fits our lifestyle. After wasting money on several of the “metal chain-type” bracelets, I ordered the sport slim bracelet from Universal Medical. This is one of the very few companies who offer a 9-line free engraving option with purchase. They also give you more spaces per line (22) for the lettering than some of the other companies. The engraving plate appears to be pewter or a brushed silver color. It’s very nice and very subtle. I had five lines engraved on the front of the plate and four lines on the back side. I stayed with the standard Arial font and the black letters are easily readable. The plate slides around on the silicon band so in case you need to adjust the band to fit your wrist, you can slide the plate to a comfortable position. The plate is not so loose it moves on its own; you have to move it. I’m surprised to find out I like the silicone wristband. You have to turn the wrist band inside-out in order to open the clasps to remove the band from the clasp in order to resize it. I used my thumbnail to open the little claw hooks. Just follow the directions that come with it. A lesson learned – start off cutting it a bit long and always cut from the side without the medical caduceus (snake on a pole). I sized it a tad bit too short the first time and it was a bit snug on my wrist. I find the band is more comfortable if I can slide my little finger between the band and my wrist. I don’t like anything tight on my wrist. I ordered a replacement wristband from Universal Medical’s website (amazing customer service – it was here a couple of days after I ordered it and the replacement band was very affordable). I want to give a big shout-out to the questions section where someone asked how to get a replacement wristband and a company spokesman answered it. People really do read the Q&A sections on the products. One of the nicest surprises was the clasp on the back of the wristband. It will be familiar to those of you who have had a good quality old-time watch. You flip the top lip open with your fingernail (it’s in the middle of the clasp with a little indentation in front of it) and then you squeeze the two release buttons and the rest of the clasp opens. It’s a simple and practical idea that makes it easy to take the bracelet on and off. If you’re left handed, or if it’s just more convenient, you can take remove the clasp from the wrist band and flip the clasp 180 degrees if it’s easier for you to open it that way. The customized engraving is easy. Just follow the “customize now” instructions for the front and back. You can switch between the front and back until you get the engraving just like you want it. You get a chance to do a final review on checkout and you can switch between the front and back (maybe it says top and bottom???) to check the engraving before you finalize the purchase. You get a medical card and sleeve with each purchase. Oh, sure, if you’re like us you probably have several floating around where you cram in everything you want the health care folks to know about you and you wrote so small or tried to get in too much it’s not very readable. This is so much better. You can create a logon to Universal Medical’s website and they have a function under the “account” section where you can type in all your information. When it prints, there are cut lines and fold lines and it easily fits into the sleeve that came with your purchase. I got a medical card when I purchased the bracelet and another one when I had to get a new wristband. The website allows you to create and save two medical alert cards so I created one for my husband and it went in the second sleeve. I always ask myself if I would purchase the item I’m reviewing again. This is a resounding “yes”. If I just need another engraving plate (things do change) or lose/gain weight and need another wristband, the parts are available on the company’s website. As I said earlier, I got the second wristband within a couple of days of ordering it. I appreciate good customer service and good quality products. This company has both. This is a good looking medical bracelet for both men and women.
